Beginner Driver Training
Teen Driver Training (16 & 17)
South Cherokee/Jasper Driver Improvement Clinic is certified by the Georgia Department of Driver Services (DDS) to conduct the Teenage Driver Training Program (Joshua’s Law) that is required for 16 and 17 years old to obtain their driver’s license.
This program consists of 30 hours of classroom instruction and 6 hours of individual behind-the-wheel training. All driving instruction is done in our state certified, dual controlled vehicles.
Parents, we are here to partner with you and your teen to improve their driving skills needed for becoming a safe responsible driver. We cannot teach your teen to drive in 6 hours. Learning how to drive takes much commitment and time. The more committed to putting time in with your teen the safer they will be.
The 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving instruction will be with a licensed instructor who will assess their skills on the road and coach them on what they need to continue practicing.
Students will get experience with both rural and urban traffic, highway and also learn the basic skills needed for the road test (turnabout, straight line backing and parallel parking). Parents are encouraged to meet with the driving instructor before and/or after drives to compare their evaluation of the student's needs and progress.
Although 18 year olds are not required by law to take the 30 hour classroom it is highly recommended as driving is primarily a decision making process that uses critical judgment and reasoning that is not fully developed until around age 25. This is why anyone under 25 is high risk and also due to inexperience.
Under Georgia law, persons under 25 years of age may qualify for an insurance premium reduction if they complete a qualified driver training program. Drivers must maintain a clean driving record to continue to receive the reduction. Contact your insurance agent for details.
To register for the 30 hour classroom/6 hours behind-the-wheel (16 & 17 Joshua’s Law)
Behind-the-Wheel only Training
A Learner’s Permit is required before beginning the behind the wheel training.
Teens (16 & 17)
Teens 16 or 17 year olds who completed the 30 hour class on-line or at another school can take the 6 hours of individual behind-the-wheel training with us to receive a certificate to satisfy Joshua’s Law.
Adult Driver Training (18+)
Behind-the-Wheel training for non-teens who do not require classroom instruction.
This is often completed in 2 -12 hours, based on the student’s skill level and in-car performance. A recommendation will be made by the instructor if additional training is needed. All driving instruction is done in our state certified, dual controlled vehicles.
Georgia requires ALL AGES 40 hours of driving experience with 6 hours being night driving. MORE IS BETTER as AAA says it takes 5 years for someone to be an average driver!
